Room check: Rutherford Hotel, Nelson

Location: It’s difficult to miss the Rutherford – situated in Nelson’s cunning CBD, it is among the town’s tallest buildings. Assembled in the 1970s, the practical outside of the resort gives no hint to its refined foyer, complete with timeless Jaguar, sweeping stairway, fountain and chandeliers.

Check in encounter: We could drive right into the porte cochere and also the concierge took care of our bags and offered to park the car securely away in the underground carpark for us ($10 a day).

Right next door is the iconic Christ Church Cathedral, along with the primary stores, theaters along with the Suter Gallery are within a couple of minutes’ walk.

Room: The resort has several distinct room shapes, including a two-bedroom family room.

I’d a broad Deluxe Suite, with desk, dining table, a separate lounge area and kitchen, complete with dishwasher.

Exercise: there’s a little health club and sauna. In summer guests can get an outside pool.

The bed: A lavish king, with a pillow menu on offer.

Toilet: Standard, with a shower/bath.

Toiletries: The Manuka Spa variety, including makeup remover wipes.

Free wifi? No.

Sound: A small road sound but on a Sunday night it was pretty silent.

Cost: Rooms begin at 0.

Food: And hereis the best part – there are two outstanding restaurants to select from, in addition to the Port o’ Call tavern along with the Atom Cafe off the reception.

What is so great about this location? The food is excellent along with the place is amazing.
